Since I was small I have always been interested in astronomy and have always wished to go north and see the Aurora Borealis. I saw them once in college on a camping trip, but was surprised to be able to see them super clearly in Iowa a week ago so I thought I would share my photos here. After my friend Adri texted me she saw them I jumped in the car (was home alone) and drove north to McFarland Nature Preserve and hiked down the road near the Observatory where I figured I'd be free of lights.

If I had known they were going to keep getting stronger I would have stayed out at the park a little longer. So as I drove home, while still outside of town they were getting stronger and stronger so I found a coupe of safe places to pull over and take a couple more photos.

When I got home I realized I could still see them and grabbed a couple more shots from my yard of the bright pinks and purples. I still aspire to go to Alaska, and Norway and see them again but for now this was still pretty great. I just wish my family had been home to share them with.
