My Fans and Followers (Family) 12/10/09

So sorry for the long gap between postings. August - November have been a bit hectic in my life. August found me trying to travel unsuccessfully to Chicago for some Cubbie action when a stomach flu (Abby's not mine) left us in Muscatine for a weekend of visiting with my grandparents. It was a lovely time... but not really what we had in mind.

Then we got back to Ames and my mother-in-law had come to stay with us for two weeks. It was a help to have her here, but unfortunately JJ didn't take to her at that time. He was pretty attached to me and his nanny Kristen to that didn't go as planned either. While Mary was staying with us Abby started kindergarten and because I am routinely dropping the ball I didn't have Abby signed up for bus service so did some juggling of time while I finished up my time with the USDA and prepared to start a new job with the Iowa DOT.

Eventually we got Abby's school schedule straightened out and JJ settled in with a new daycare provider in our neighborhood. Mary went back home, and I started my new job (back doing GIS again yeah!!) Then Joe had to go to Spokane WA for two weeks of training for work. Remarkably the kids and I got by pretty well for the first week and a half (with the help of my folks) but by the last couple of days Abby and I were wearing on each others patience.

Joe got back and a couple of weeks later we headed to Olympia Washington for a wonderful week of vacation staying with the outstanding Eddi and Dale while visiting with our friends and taking in the sights... ah mountains and beautiful fall colors. We took the train to Portland Oregon where Joe and Abby headed home and JJ and I stayed for a couple more days to attend the Association for Women Geoscientists board meeting and take in some more beautiful scenery.

We got back and work was busier than ever for both Joe and I while the cold and flu season ravaged everyone we know and messed up schedules some more as we juggled for weeks to find backup child care and get everyone healthy. We spent a wonderful few days at my in-laws in Nebraska for Thanksgiving even though I had a migraine while we were there.

Now we are getting ready for the holidays (thank goodness my shopping is nearly done even if my holiday crafts, cookies and decorating are still falling short.) So that is while I have not been doing my duty of clearing my mind and sharing my stories with you. I do plan to do better. Best to you all.
